Crewed Charters
(Gulets / Traditional Motor Sailors)
The
best way to visit the incredible Turkish Aegean coast is aboard
a large, classic, wooden, Gulet. These magnificent traditional
motor sailors are the most authentic comfortable boats in Turkey
for private groups of up to 20 passengers. From our base at Marmaris
Gulets make 7,10 and 14 day trips stopping at some of the most
important historic locations as well as the most beautiful forested
bays of the Turkish Aegean.
The Gulets, are similar to scaled down Caribbean "windjammer"
type yachts, at only 30+ metres (100 + feet). Unlike windjammers
they are private and accommodate 6 to 20 guests only, making them
an intimate way of enjoying this special part of the world. Gulet
accommodations are opulent and comfortable with elegantly decorated
double and single berth cabins, all with private washroom facilities.
Fit for Sultans, each double cabin has a traditional rounded,
comfy, wooden bed and exotic local decor including floors are
lined with Turkish carpets! The saloons feature wonderful wood
work with elegant entertaining environments including bar and
sound system. Topside they offer outdoor dinning areas, large
open teak decks with plush sun beds and cushioned rounded stern
sun decks.

Traditional Turkish Gulet
A
new concept in marine literature - the Turkish gulet. These boats`
sizes vary between 15 and 30 meters and are constructed in Turkey
along traditional lines by seafaring family firms using slightly
changed techniques over the centuries. However, they have been
adapted to the most stringent of travelers requirements
and now offer luxury and good taste not found in any other craft
of similar history and background. Gulets make ideal charter boats
- which is their main use in Turkey. Full cooking facilities are
fitted and gulets are built for long sea voyages as well as inshore
coastal trips. They make an ideal holiday home in which to explore
offshore areas in comfort and style. They are floating exceptions
for recreational activities - and it is this aspect which could
be the gulets most exciting adaptation to the gulf. Tourism is
now becoming an area of increasing importance and gulet sailing
would be a very popular option for hotels to offer visitors. Corporate
entertaining would take on a new dimension if it took place on
a traditional wooden boat - reminiscent of the Ottomans in the
eastern Mediterranean. The climate in Turkey also makes a gulet
the ideal place to entertain your friends or business visitors.
Gulets are our Speciality
Traditionally hand made by master craftsmen,
attractive wooden motor sailors (gulets) are our fleet of comfortable
vessels are ideal for charters.
Gulets broad, beamy hulls give spacious decks
and high headroom below. The foredeck makes a large sun bathing
area and the huge aftdeck provides a shady cushioned area for
relaxing and eating al fresco. The saloon is fitted with a bar,
library and for your entertainment HI-FI system, as per your request
TV and telephone.
Light and airy below decks, each cabin has
a double or twin berths some also have an upper single bunk. All
cabins have opening port holes, and a large number of boats have
ducted air-conditioning. Each cabin has en-suite hot and cold
shower, basin and wc.
All gulets have plenty of storage fresh
water and fuel. Fridges, freezers and iceboxes keep provisions
fresh allowing you to stay away from port for days and enjoy your
your holiday to the utmost. Sail are raised unfavorable breezes
but gulets tend to rely on their powerful engines.
For private charter groups we have a wide selection
of gulets varying from four to ten cabins. Our professional team
will help you decide according to your needs and budget.
Crew
Each gulet has an experienced and knowledgeable
Turkish captain, chef and deck hand who will host you and look after
the boat. They can suggest the best anchorage places, steer the boat,
raise the sails, drop the anchor, rig the windsurfer, clean the
boat, provision, cook and serve the meals and make the time to entertain
you. The crew have their own separate quarters and at at least one
speaks a second language.

Our Gulet Base in Turkey
Poseidon Charters works with the largest and most
respected Gulet charter company operating in Turkey. All the Gulets are
based and depart round trip from Marmaris, unless scheduled elsewhere.
Services available through our operator include airport transfers via
minibus, ferry service from the Greek islands of Rhodes and Kos, provisioning
services, electrical and engineering services along with all port formalities.
Our Gulet 'Tuna' and her Crew
Tuna is the best Gulet in Turkish water for small
groups of 6 guests. She is well made, well maintained and is a very comfortable
size at 21 metres making her perfect for a smaller family or group. She
also has a great crew, whose captain speaks good English and has many
years experience with western clients including 16 weeks of Americans
last season. Tuna's captain and crew also know a lot about the country's
history -which is another huge asset of this Gulet.
Sailing to Greek and Turkish Ports
Visiting both Turkey and Greece on a charter is
complicated as a result of government policies between the two countries.
It is possible to charter a yacht at one of our Dodecanese, Greek ports
(Rhodes or Kos) and sail to many Turkish ports but a transit log for the
yacht is required. This log can be obtained from port authorities at the
larger Turkish centres (Bodrum, Marmaris & Antalya) and it cost US$
600.00 in 1999. There is no such transit visa for Greece, so it is not
possible to visit any Greek ports unless you do it by ferry.
Flight, Land and Yacht Packages
We also offers many flight, land tour, hotel &
island packages for Turkey which include Istanbul and Izmir and can be
combined with cruising. Archaeological Adventure Cruises, Bareboats, flotilla
sailing, power boats, luxury launches and cruise ships are also available
